A prediction of shiny airliners taking off from Winnipeg en-route to destinations east and west seemed like a far-fetched dream to many Canadians in the early 1930s. Yet, in 1938, Winnipeg’s position at the centre of Canada made it the perfect location for the newly formed Trans-Canada Air Line’s head office. Winnipeg was quickly transformed into one of the nation’s busiest air centers. The historic building, where more than 1,200 people – including maintenance, customer service, clerical, and management staff – once worked to keep the TCA fleet flying, is today home to the Western Canada Aviation Museum. You are invited to the original TCA headquarters to view its first airplane (a Lockheed Electra 10A), board the historic Vickers Viscount, and experience a trip back in time.
