CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF POWERED FLIGHT IN CANADA

The Museum is planning a series of events to mark this important milestone in Canadian aviation history.

When visiting the Museum, be sure to see the 100 Years of Powered Flight timeline which begins with the Silver Dart flight of 1909. It will be on display in the Hallway of Flight (second floor).

Don't miss Canadian achievements in aviation - two new exhibits...

Soaring with the Birds captures the imagination and innovation of our earliest attempts to rise into the air. Hot air balloons were soon followed by primitive flying machines made of wood, fabric and wire and powered by rudimentary gasoline engines modified from auto or motorcycle engines.

Science sets its sights on the Sky highlights the flight in 1909 of the Silver Dar, the first powered aircraft developed and flown in Canada. With that achievement, Canada entered the age of flight, a heady time, full of excitement and adventure, high risk, danger and glory.
